April 2018 Plant of the evening
Dendrobium bigibbum.
I rather like growing Dendrobium bigibbum. The plant was bought at an ANOS Sydney meeting and I have had it for about five years. I remember it flowering as a very small plant and it has never looked back.
I grow this particular plant with quite a few other bigibbums and hard-cane crosses in a cool glass house. They are treated rather harshly. In the summer they get more watering and a little fertilising. About now, in early winter after flowering, things change and I guess one could say I 'starve' my bigibbums and hard-canes on a diet of mist - though on a warm days only.
Maybe this method is all wrong, but it works for me. I feel more orchids languish by too much attention than not enough.
